7 Tips and Tricks: How To Relieve Test Anxiety

  1. Take breaks.

Getting overworked with reviewing will only cause you to get more nervous than you already are. In worse cases, too much information will not benefit your mindset—it will only rattle you more. So take a break once in a while if you feel like everything’s too much.

  1. Acceptance

Accept what you can’t control and make necessary adjustments. Getting anxious over things we can’t deal with will only make us feel more worried.

  1. Avoid caffeine.

Caffeine is known to boost your focus, but too much intake can have physical repercussions like a fast heartbeat rate, colds and shivers, and excessive trembling. So if you think that too much coffee is causing your anxiety, lessen your intake, if not stop.

  1. Distract yourself with something that makes you happy.

If you’re in a break, try looking for adorable videos of dogs or cats. While this may work for a lot of people, you can get as creative as you like! So do things that make you happy and relieved.

  1. Listen to soothing music.

Try listening to relaxing music. It’s also encouraged that soft music and ambient sounds are better than hyped songs that can further make you anxious rather than relieve you. Immerse yourself in a good headset, close your eyes, and appreciate the beauty of music!

  1. Take a warm bath.

Take a warm bath—not a cold one or a hot one. Cold showers can make you shiver and tremble more, which can cause you more anxiety. Hot showers can burn your skin and can wake you up. So make it a practice to control the temperature when taking a bath. Adjust it to your body’s comfort.

  1. Talk to someone you trust.

Talking your feelings of anxiety out with someone can also help with relieving it, especially if that someone understands you completely. You’ll be given a sense of “it’s going to be alright” feeling or “your feelings are valid” thought. So talk to your best friend, your loved ones, or your family, and don’t be afraid to speak up! They’ll surely support you!

Take It Easy! Your Feelings Are Valid!

Don’t ever feel invalidated because of your feelings and emotions. It’s normal to feel anxiety. In fact, it’s a survival mechanism that has been long-rooted in our civilization. If you feel anxious, you’ll acknowledge a sense of danger and things you can’t control, and you’ll know how to respond to them appropriately.

Use your anxiety as a form of preparation in your OET classes. Through your anxiety, you’ll know that you’ll have a life-changing exam on its way to you—and by then, you’ll know what to do. And if it gets too much, remember our seven tips and tricks on easing your tension.
